About Northwest Danish Association

Northwest Danish Association (NWDA) is your premier connection to Danish culture and community in the Pacific Northwest, serving Seattle, WA and the broader region since 1923. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NWDA offers a comprehensive range of cultural programs, educational initiatives, and community services designed to celebrate and share Danish heritage with audiences throughout Washington and Oregon.

Our cultural programming showcases Denmark's contributions to global society, including its renowned design, architecture, cinema, and sustainability innovations. NWDA actively promotes exchanges between Danish and American artists across music and fine arts, sponsoring performances and exhibitions that increase mutual appreciation and awareness. We celebrate authentic Danish traditions through signature events including Fastelavn, Julestue, and Lillejuleaften, providing community members with direct access to Danish cultural experiences.

Education remains central to our mission. Following the Grundtvig folk school tradition, NWDA provides lifelong learning opportunities for all ages through summer camps for children and teens, lectures, and exhibitions for adult audiences. Our scholarship programs have supported students for over 20 years, helping individuals achieve their educational and career aspirations.

Beyond cultural enrichment, NWDA serves the broader community through eldercare services rooted in our founding as the Danish Old Peoples Home. We provide medical support, housing assistance, transportation, and social engagement opportunities to help seniors maintain independence and active community participation. With our headquarters and Seattle Danish Center located in Seattle, WA, NWDA operates as a hub for cross-cultural exchange, community networking, and the preservation of Danish language and traditions throughout the Pacific Northwest.
